Curves and Soft Geometry in Interior Design

Curves and soft geometry in interior design

The trend in interior design is shifting from sharp, straight lines to more gentle and curved elements. This type of furniture design embraces curves and soft edges, creating a more organic and flowing aesthetic.

In the vast world of interior design, the use of different shapes is crucial in creating a visually pleasing overall design. Specifically, curves and lines are essential components that work together in perfect harmony to define the character and atmosphere of a given space. These elements come together like skilled musicians, performing a graceful dance that gives life and structure to the environment.

Sense of harmony, fluidity, and organic feel.

This design approach aims to strike a balance between modern geometric elements and a cozy, welcoming ambiance.

Importance of Arches in Interior Design

When it comes to design, arches serve to generate a feeling of grandeur and stability. They visually elevate the space and create the illusion of increased size and openness. This architectural element often represents elegance and sophistication, making it a sought-after choice in interior design.

By incorporating arches, the natural flow of a room is enhanced, making it more welcoming and conducive to a pleasant atmosphere.

In addition, arches have a profound symbolism and historical significance in architecture and design. They have been used for centuries and are associated with strength, stability, and even the divine in some cultures. Arches were frequently utilised in ancient times to support large structures, adding to their historical value. There are four primary types of arches: round, pointed, horseshoe, and lancet, each with its distinctive shape that can be employed to produce different effects in interior design.

    LaCividina – DOROTHEA Sofa System

The inspiration for Dorothea, a type of Lithops, comes from the “living stones” succulent plant and the planar, asymmetrical seat embraced by a sculptural backrest that acts as the supporting element. Thinner in the middle, it increases in thickness at the ends, enveloping the upholstery and creating a welcoming flow of soft lines and sharp volumes. The organic shapes available in nine modules – five seats and four backrests of different sizes – promote sophisticated and original compositions beyond traditional linear modularity. Just as in nature, the individual elements come together spontaneously and, following their curves, evolve into groups that take full advantage of the space.

CURVES AND GEOMETRY IN HOME DECOR

Furniture designers are creating plush and comfortable pieces that embrace curves. This trend, dubbed “puffy furniture” by British Vogue, may seem old-fashioned compared to sharp edges, but it offers a modern twist with its soft and inviting appearance.

Curves possess the power to harmonize spaces by forming a sense of smoothness, proportion, and equilibrium. Their simplicity holds an inherent beauty. Opting for curved lines or shapes, as opposed to straight ones, can inject a captivating dynamic into a space while remaining faithful to a minimalist and timeless style.

The design world seems to be gradually moving from minimalism to maximalism and that curved aesthetics are a result of this shift.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate curves into your interiors is with statement furniture pieces.

Nowadays, growing trend of lights with bold curves in the shade or main body of the fixture. These curved lights have the ability to bring a heightened sense of dramatic effect to a particular area by flexibly bending or guiding the light in a desired direction.

Just how a round dining table creates a friendly atmosphere for conversations, a curved sofa has a similar effect in a living room.

LaCividina – AGETTi 2 Seater Sofa

From the first collaboration between Garcia Cumini and LaCividina comes Agetti, an armchair with an architectural spirit that defies the rules of traditional seating. The elements that create it also immediately define its identity: sharp and without exuberance, compact and perfect to fit into residential and commercial spaces with equal effectiveness. The small sculpture by Garcia Cumini focuses on slender volumes and the sharpness of the seams, with an ever-present and “controlled” softness across the entire upholstery. All of this can be appreciated in a structure with a deliberately compact size available as an armchair and as a sofa. With Agetti, LaCividina expresses its pragmatic, accurate, and solid nature, taking its manufacturing, technological, and craftsmanship skills to the highest levels.

Glass Decor Close Encounters Large Purple light-dark by Stefan Schöning

GARDECO is where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration. The Belgian artist and renowned architect Stefan Schöning astonishes yet again with a beautifully abstract, balanced work of art. The idea for Close encounters, a piece in mouth blown glass, arose at the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic. Governments took measures that made us feel safe, but also quite lonely and estranged from one another. The desire to be close to his loved ones was what drove Schöning to design Close encounters. Rather than to portray distance, the artist decided to concretise the opposite: closeness.
Schöning consciously selected glass as a medium for Close encounters, as it can be mouth blown and its properties allow two ‘bubbles’ to cling to each other. Besides this, the transparency of the work and complementary colours enhance the effect of attraction.

    Material: Glass
